Methylprednisolone for Prevention of Seroma Formation after Mastectomy

Background: Breast cancer is the most common cause of death in middle aged women. Seroma formation claimed to be a very problem after axillary dissection patients with breast cancer. Aim: To conduct this study see if injecting methyl prednisolone can improve post-operative outcomes modified radical mastectomy terms seroma Methods: This Study design randomized control trial, done at Surgical Department, Khyber Teaching Hospital, Peshawar from October 12th 2019 till April 2020. Randomization was through lottery method. Sample size 38 each group. All data analyzed SPSS (version 22). Mean + SD calculated for continuous var-iables like age, BMI and volume seroma. Frequency percentages were categorical variables stage cancer, whether neoadjuvant chemotherapy received andefficacy. Efficacy both groups compared using chi square test keeping p value <0.05 as significant. Result: age Group A 38±12.72 years whereas B 40±11.83 years. ( Methyl prednisolone) effective 76% preventing for-mation. Normal Saline injection 53% patients. Methylprednisolone being statistically significant prevention 0.03. Conclusion: Our concludes that local more than normal saline carcinoma breast. Clinical Implications: will not only add national international literature available on topic but would also help us modifying treatment guidelines proven efficacious order patient management.
